Hi Sophie, I've been wanting to diet, exercise, and eat healthy for the longest time, but I honestly have no idea where to start. I'm only seventeen, I can't afford to buy extremely healthy foods or go to the gym constantly, what would you recommend me to

Hi Megan, thanks for the message!

First things first, unless you are terribly overweight you DO NOT need to worry about excess skin so do not worry about that. You do not need to buy extremely healthy foods or go to the gym 24/7 to get healthier and fitter.

The best way to start is with small changes… so ask your parents or whoever you live with to add some more veggies to your meals, this is amazing for the whole family and you can get frozen if you do not have the budget for fresh. If you already do this then great! Getting more fruit and veg in your diet is key and makes a huge difference. If you tend to have big meals than looking at size will be helpful, but do not cut out carbs.  Look at cutting down on fast food and processed sugar will actually make the BIGGEST difference to you… they are all little things you can start with.

If your family and friends eat badly then you need one thing. WILLPOWER WILLPOWER WILLPOWER. It is bloody hard but you need it for success. Remember balanced diet and that a treat every now and again is good.

Working out is the easiest thing… get on youtube!!! YAY! Cassey Ho, Kayla, Tone it up and follow their amazing work-out videos! do 20-30 minutes, 3-5 days a week and start walking more places, little things like that add up. Best of all it’s all free and you can do it in your bedroom. I am going to be filming some workout videos this summer for you guys too!! super exciting.

So what I want you to do is sit down at some point today and go have a look at different youtube videos.. and write down a plan for next week. Monday, Wednesday and Friday say you will do a work-out video after school or work. Then think about food… say plan to have instant porridge with skimmed milk and cinnamon for breakfast with a bit of fruit then plan to add a veg or two to your evening meal. Baby steps work. If you need anymore help let me know… :)

Lots of love, sophie xxx
